Wilderness Adventure

Camp Daggett Scholarship

All sessions will offer campers, ages 13-15, an exciting opportunity to challenge themselves and learn new skills in a wilderness setting. Each will begin with a day and a half on our challenge ropes course in order to increase the campers' self-confidence and improve their communication and teamwork skills. The group will then put their new found skills to the test as they head off on one of three fun and exciting wilderness adventures.

Although the three trips vary in location and difficulty, each will focus on "Leave No Trace" backcountry ethics, basic survival skills and the general history and ecology of the area.

CANOER 2017 - Canoeing Upper and Lower Tahquamenon River and the Two Hearted River      June 25 - July 1, 2017
In-County   $550           Out-of-County   $695
Are you looking for a true canoeing adventure?  This summer we will be exploring some of the most scenic meandering waterways that Michigan has to offer.  After setting up base camp in the beautiful Tahquamenon Falls River Campground, we will be heading out for daily adventures on the Upper Tahquamenon, Lower Tahquamenon and the Two Hearted rivers.  Exploring the beauty of some of Michigan's most natural rivers, we will build our paddling skills as we attempt varying levels of swift water and technical river ways.  Expect 4 days and 3 nights of exploring the wilderness, spotting wildlife, relaxing on sand bars and some of the best beaches Michigan has to offer.  Our days will end with picturesque sunsets and camaraderie around the camp fire.  It is sure to be a trip to remember, full of fun and adventure.

PATHFINDER 2017 - Backpacking North Manitou Island              July 9 - 15, 2017
In-County   $570        Out-of-County   $725
This summer, come have a real wilderness adventure with us on North Manitou Island.  Now here is a camping trip!  15,000 acres of wilderness with a visitor use concept that emphasizes solitude, self-reliance and a sense of exploration.  On this exciting backpacking expedition campers will live and learn the basics of wilderness travel and camping while exercising sound, noninvasive, minimum impact techniques.  Our journey will take us on an exploration of North Manitou Island for a duration of 4 days and 3 nights.  North Manitou Island is located 12 miles west of Leland in Lake Michigan, so back-country swimming and beach exploration is a camper favorite!  Be prepared to have fun while experiencing, learning and identifying countless species of flora and fauna throughout this adventure.

EXPLORER 2017 - Biking and Backpacking Pictured Rocks           July 30 - August 5, 2017
In-County   $620      Out-of-County    $750
If you are looking for a more challenging wilderness excursion, The Explorere Trip is for you!  Our destination will be the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore along the southern shore of Lake Superior for 4 days and 3 nights.  While there, we will take in the undisturbed beauty of one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world and marvel at the immaculate limestone formations that serve as its shoreline.  During this time, we will be biking on Grand Island and hiking in the Pictured Rocks area enjoying some of the natural berries and edibles in the region.  Some prior wildernss experience and exposure to hiking and mountain biking experience preferred.  Come see for yourself one of Nature's most interesting pieces of artwork!
